Rain Gear

Some type of rain gear is typically required for any race over six hours long. What do you look for in the gear you need? That depends on what the race directors require. Some do not specify which gear you have to use, where others give specifics (such as taped seams or storm proof) that make you choices more limited. We have put together a small list of items that are cheapest in price, light in weight, and work to fulfill the most stringent of race regulations and but still have features that work well for racing.

Marmot PreCip Jacket and Pants

Marmot Precip Jacket

The Marmot PreCip Jacket is a proven favorite among Adventure Racers.

The PreCip's combination of functionality, durability and ultra lightweight make it nearly impossible to beat.

In the rain and snow the PreCip Jacket will keep you dry and protected.

When you start to warm up, open the Pit Zips for great ventilation. Slanted chest pockets make easy access even when wearing your pack.

The attached hood accommodates helmets and head equally well with a volume control Velcro strap. With Marmot's Angel-wing Movement you will not feel constrained hiking, climb, biking, etc.

The pants feature a comfortable draw cord elastic waist, articulated seat and knees and gusseted crotch work together to allow unrestricted movement. Partial side zips allow easy on and off over shoes or boots.

Review:

The jacket and pants have great features with unreal ventilation. We have been testing these out for about six months now and found them to be a great product for adventure racing or fast packing. The features make your more comfortable when wearing them and both are still light enough to not to add unneeded ounces to you. The pants are quick to get on without having to remove your shoes. The jacket performs well and is comfortable even with a pack and helmet on. The price is a slight drawback, but is well worth the product you get.

Review:

GoLite has had a hand in ultra-light gear almost since someone uttered "Cant we make this any lighter?".

The clarity jacket is a great addition to any gear list and is light enough for adventure racing. The drawbacks are ventilation, the jacket does not feature pit-zips and the pants do not have side zips for ease of entry. This makes these items lighter and much more simple. If you are counting the ounces this combo may be for you.

Review:

The jacket and pants have great features with great ventilation. The features are great and still are light enough to not weigh you down too much. The jacket performs like a champ and is comfortable even with a pack and helmet on. The North Face offers a limited warranty for the products and is a great selling feature for price minded buyers.

This is a great product from North Face and well worth the price.
